Members of the 14-party alliance are expecting respectable seats in the 12th National Assembly elections. There are 10 (including 2 reserved) MPs in the present parliament. This time the partners expect 20 seats. However, Awami League has said that the finalization of seats and candidates will have to wait until the withdrawal of nomination papers on December 17.

Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) President Hasanul Haque Inu held a meeting at the residence of Awami League Advisory Council member and 14-party alliance coordinator Amir Hossain Amur Iskaton on Tuesday afternoon. The expectations of the partners were later informed to the journalists.

Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held a meeting with the leaders of the 14-party alliance on Monday. There, Amir Hossain Amu was given the responsibility to decide on the distribution of seats among the coalition parties.

According to the related sources, the list was handed over to Amir Hossain Amu for the concession of six seats each from Workers Party and Jasdar.
After the meeting, Rashed Khan Menon told reporters that a list has been given by the coalition, 14 parties have asked for some more seats than before. He said that the issue of seat sharing was finalized by protecting the dignity of the alliance.

However, Hasanul Haque Inu told reporters that the seat sharing should be honorable for the alliance, that is the expectation. The alliance now has 10 MPs (including 2 reserved), expected to be 20. Stating that the candidates of the coalition will be elected with the boat symbol, Inu said that where the candidates of the coalition come, the candidates of the Awami League will rise. Candidates of the coalition will be elected on boat brands.

Amir Hossain Amu told the media, “We will hold elections together in some constituencies.” And in some constituencies, the participating parties will elect themselves. Members will use the boat symbol in jointly elected seats. They will use their own symbols in the rest of the seats.

The coordinator of the 14-party alliance said that the seat sharing of the 14-party partners will be decided subject to discussion with the Jatiya Party. He said that the election will be held by alliance, Awami League will discuss with Jatiya Party tomorrow. He said that the finalization of the alliance’s seat arrangement and candidates will have to wait until the day of withdrawal of nomination papers on December 17.
