Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) arrested five people after investigating the case filed by Mostafizur in this incident last October. Among those arrested are a police inspector (SI) and a constable. The officials involved in the investigation said that CID SI Rezaul Karim (39) and Constable Abu Saeed (32) were leading this kidnapping ring. They called several people in the identity of the CID and kidnapped them and took them to a secluded area in Purvachal. There, he tortured and extorted millions of taka from the kidnap victim.

Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Head of DB Harun Ar-Rashid told reporters on Monday that the victim, Mostafizur Rahman, filed a case for extorting money after abducting him at Bhatara police station on October 31. After investigating the case, DB first arrested three people. Later, based on the information given by them, CID SI Rezaul and Constable Saeed were arrested. He said, these policemen have been committing this crime for a long time.
According to sources related to the investigation, Rezaul introduced himself as OC Rabiul of CID and called businessmen and employees and asked them to meet. He was kidnapped when he came to visit. If they didn’t come to see him, they would let him know the last location of the person’s phone. SI Rezauler had a jacket with CID written on it, a pocket watch and a pistol. Constable Saeed was also wearing a CID jacket.
CID spokesman Police Superintendent Azad Rahman told Prothom Alo today that the two CID members involved in the crime have been temporarily dismissed. After the investigation, departmental action will be taken against them.
The plaintiff of the case, Mostafizur Rahman, said that he is involved in the business of “buying house”. For his father’s treatment, he recently sold land and deposited 6 lakh 25 thousand taka in his bank account. Two members of the CID got information about this money through an acquaintance of his. A few days later, on October 7, SI Rezaul OC called him introducing himself.
Mostafizur told Prothom Alo, “I didn’t go to the CID office and they came to my home on October 8 and forcibly took me away.” Later, he was detained in a secluded area and tortured for about eight hours. According to court sources, Imon said in his deposition that he collected Mustafizur Rahman’s phone number from Abdullah Al Fahim on the instructions of CID SI Rezaul. Based on that phone number, they found Mustafiz’s location and went to his house. Mustafiz was abducted and beaten by SI Rezaul. Then they withdrew first three lakhs from Mustafiz’s bank account and then two times one lakh and two lakhs. Later, he was released with another 20 thousand taka on the phone.
