This Saturday, Vergil Ortiz Jr. makes his ring comeback (at a new weight!) against Fredrick Lawson, following a break of more than a year. The unbeaten boxer was pushed to the sidelines by rhabdomyolysis-related health issues, thus a shift from welterweight to super welterweight was inevitable. After getting well, Ortiz Jr. claims he’s prepared to show everyone what he can do to anyone who puts up a fight with him.

It’s exactly what I needed to headline my first card in Las Vegas after more than a year of inactivity, Ortiz Jr. stated in a release. “I’m driven to perform brilliantly, as I always do, and to let everyone know that I’m still around.”

In his most recent fight, the 25-year-old defeated Michael McKinson via technical knockout in the ninth round to keep his WBO International championship.

Lawson, who has won three of his last five fights, is in front of Ortiz Jr. After losing to Charles Hatley, “General Okunka” got back on the winning track with decisions over Esteban Villalobos and Collinson Korley, respectively.
