New bus stand is one and a half km away from Barguna town. In the afternoon, the driver Nazrul Islam had a question while returning to the city in a battery-powered three-wheeler at the bus stand, how was the vote in Barguna? Nazrul turned his head and replied, ‘People are winning.’ Meaning, on being asked, he said in a tone of annoyance, ‘Hey, you don’t understand, people want change.’ Dada’s change, the vote has become a heyday.

It is understood that Nazrul Islam is talking about Barguna-1 (Sadar-Amtali-Taltali) Member of Parliament Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu. The people of Barguna address him as Dada. Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu has been elected in Barguna-1 constituency seven times on the nomination of Awami League. He has won every election except 2001 and this year. This time he lost to the independent candidate of the party. Shambhu has been the president of district Awami League for three decades.
Talking to the Awami League leaders and workers and voters, it was revealed that an idea was established among the people of Barguna, ‘As long as Dada lives, he will be an MP.’ No one will get a party nomination in his place. No one could compete with him in nomination or promotion—the idea was established among the leaders-activists and common people. This time dozens of leaders wanted the nomination of Awami League. But in the end Shambhu got the nomination. He was overconfident about winning. The leaders were united against him during the last elections. 52 people sought nomination. Although he eventually got the nomination. This time three independent candidates of the party dared to oppose him. Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu was unimaginably caught in this.

District Awami League joint general secretary Golam Sarwar Tuku became a member of Parliament by getting 61 thousand 742 votes in this election. His closest rival district Awami League member Golam Charwar Forkan got 57 thousand 814 votes. On the other hand, former Member of Parliament Shambhu came third with 54 thousand 168 votes.
