Saudi Arabia called for restraint and avoidance of conflict. The country made this call in the wake of US and UK airstrikes targeting the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Friday that it is monitoring the situation with deep concern. In recent months, Saudi Arabia has been holding peace talks with Yemen’s Houthi rebels.

Saudi Arabia attaches importance to security and stability in the Red Sea region, the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said. Because, the freedom of free trade in this waterway is an international demand.
Iran-backed Houthi rebels have strong support for Hamas. They control most of Yemen. The Houthis have been fighting the Western-backed Saudi-led coalition for more than a decade.

The Houthis are attacking commercial ships traveling in the Red Sea. The Houthis say that they are attacking ships that are related to Israel or that are going to Israeli ports.

The Houthis’ chief negotiator, Mohammed Abdulsalam, said on Thursday that the attack on commercial ships in the Red Sea would not affect the peace talks with Saudi Arabia.

According to AFP news on Friday, the United States and the United Kingdom launched an attack targeting the Houthi rebels in Yemen. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the attack was aimed at undermining the Iran-backed Houthis’ radar, missile and drone attack capabilities against foreign ships.
