Houthi rebels have launched a missile attack on a US-owned cargo ship in Yemen’s Gulf of Aden. There were no immediate reports of casualties or major damage.

A British organization working on maritime security said the attack on the ship was in response to US and UK attacks on the Houthis in Yemen.

The attack was carried out on the ship located south of the coast of Yemen on Monday morning. Yahya Sari, the spokesman for the Yemeni armed group Houthi’s military wing, claimed responsibility for the attack and said that their navy launched a missile attack targeting an American ship in the Gulf of Aden. The Houthi spokesman said that all US and UK ships and warships participating in the aggression against Yemen will be targeted. He said, response to American and British attacks is inevitable and any new attacks will be responded to and punished accordingly.

According to a report by the news agency Reuters, the US-owned ship was transporting steel products. There have been anti-ship ballistic missile attacks.

The Gibraltar Eagle caught fire after being hit by a missile. However, none of the passengers were injured, according to Eagle Bulk Shipping, the company operating the ship. The company said that the ship is on its way to its destination despite being affected.
