Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said that the 12th National Assembly elections have been successfully completed. The nation has emerged from an ongoing crisis, about which there was concern. But he does not think this is a permanent solution.
The CEC said these things at the ‘thanksgiving ceremony for the fair and successful completion of the 12th National Assembly elections’ on Thursday. The Election Commission (EC) organized this thanksgiving ceremony in the auditorium of the election building. EC Secretariat officials participated in it. National Parliament election was held on January 7.
The CEC said that if there is a crisis every five years with elections, then the development of the country will be hindered. For that it is necessary to explore a method of political leadership with elections.
Addressing the officials, the CEC said that the election has been relatively good. He basically knows by reading newspapers. Many have made reputations, many have slandered. Both must be taken into account.
If the politicians do not have confidence in the Election Commission, then the Election Commission does not have acceptance – CEC Habibul Awal said that the election was not very participatory. A political crisis remains if the election is not widely accepted among the political leadership. A section not only boycotted the election, but also announced to resist it. The crisis started from that day. The road to the election was not smooth. However, the election has been lifted with the concerted efforts of all. The nation felt relieved, albeit temporarily. The Election Commission is also relieved.
CEC said that there is still criticism in newspapers. But they are not giving importance to social media. Because, there is unmitigated defamation. Mainstream media has a balanced discussion. The election has been fairly well conducted. That has been recognized in most cases.
The CEC also said two organizations said the EC implemented the government’s secret agenda under the pretext of constitutional obligations. He does not know whether there is any hidden agenda with the government. He can safely say it didn’t happen to him. He doesn’t know if it happened with anyone else. He asked the question, how did the EC excuse? He said, “Political consensus has not been reached, so could the election be postponed for 30 years?”
The CEC thanked its own officials as well as the officials of various government agencies and departments for assisting in the parliamentary election.
Election Commissioner among others in the thanksgiving ceremony. Ahsan Habib Khan, Rasheda Sultana, Md. Alamgir and Md. Anishur Rahman gave a speech. Presided over by EC Secretary Md. Jahangir Alam.
