Newly elected Member of Parliament Syed Sayedul Haque (Barrister Sumon) was invited to the exchange and extended meeting of Chunarughat Upazila Awami League of Habiganj. But Awami League leaders and activists made a fuss about his presence. This incident took place in the Upazila Parishad auditorium on Sunday afternoon. However, later the senior leaders of the party normalized the heated situation.
Awami League leaders and activists asked the president that Syed Sayedul Haque is not a member of Awami League. He has not been accepted by the party yet. Why was he called to the extended meeting of the party in such a situation?
According to party sources, Chunarughat Upazila Awami League organized an extended meeting and discussion meeting at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium this afternoon. Habiganj-4 (Chunarughat-Madhavpur) Constituency Independent Member of Parliament Syed Sayedul Haque was made the chief guest at the event. Upazila Awami League President Akbar Hossain aka Jitu presided over at 4 pm. At one stage of the meeting, the cultural secretary of Upazila Awami League, Sathi Muktadir Chowdhury, stood up and said to the president, “Was the discussion meeting between the leaders and workers of Awami League called for in today’s extended meeting, was it a decision of a party meeting or not?” Barrister Suman has been accepted by the party (Awami League) or not? If not, why exchange views with him?’ The leaders and workers started uproar immediately after the cultural editor’s question.
According to sources, after the commotion, President Akbar Hossain tried to convince the leaders and workers with a microphone. He said that today’s meeting has been called by the decision of the district Awami League. Apart from this, the member of parliament himself wanted to exchange views with everyone. But the leaders and workers did not stop the ruckus. At one point, the member of parliament tried to calm down the leaders and workers with the microphone himself. He said, ‘You are all my guardians. There are many leaders here, whose political experience is more than my age. Although I am an independent member of parliament, I am an activist of Awami League. I became a candidate according to the leader. I was elected by your vote. I have come to exchange views with you today for the sake of the development of the area.’ During his speech, the leaders and workers continued to exchange heated words with each other. Later, the situation calmed down with the intervention of senior party leaders.
Chairman of Chunarughat Upazila Parishad and Awami League leader Abdul Kadir Lashkar, former General Secretary of Upazila Awami League. Abu Taher, Upazila Awami League Organizing Secretary Manik Sarkar, Upazila Mahila League President Abeda Khatun and others were present.
