RAB arrested three people along with 22 foreign and domestic firearms, 4 mines, huge mine making equipment, 100 rounds of ammunition after raiding the remote hills of Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar. RAB claims that the arrested persons are members of Myanmar’s armed group Arakan Salvation Army (Arsa). They were arrested from Lal Pahar adjacent to Rohingya Shelter No. 20 (Extension) of Kutupalong in Ukhia on Thursday.
The arrested three are Md. Osman, Md. Neshar and Imam Hossain. They are residents of various Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhia. RAB said, Md. Osman Arsar is the commander of one group, the rest are also on important duties.
Commander of Cox’s Bazar Battalion of RAB-15 Lt. Col. HM Sajjad Hossain said that RAB’s operation was conducted from dawn to noon after receiving information that a group of terrorists was staying in Lal Pahar. At one stage of the operation, RAB members surrounded a hideout of Arsa in the mountains. Later, it was possible to arrest three persons with weapons and ammunition from that hideout. However, some escaped during the operation.
Sajjad Hossain also said that 12 “gun groups” have been carrying out various crimes and vandalism in the shelter camp under the instructions of Ataullah, the leader of the group. The chief (commander) of one of them is Osman. Of the remaining two, Neshar is adept at making landmines and Imam at shooting. The arrested three have been handed over to Ukhia police station after the case.
In the last one year, RAB has arrested 83 people from Arsa from Ukhia and Teknaf shelters in Cox’s Bazar.
