North Korea has tested a new generation of cruise missiles. The test was conducted as part of the ongoing military capability expansion.

According to a report of the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Thursday, the missile named Pulwasal-3-31 has not yet been fully developed. It is said that there is a plan to make this missile capable of carrying nuclear weapons.

The KCNA news, however, did not specify how many missiles were tested.

According to the report, this missile test has not affected the security of neighboring countries. So there is nothing to worry about the regional situation.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said on Wednesday that they had detected “several” cruise missile launches from North Korea’s west coast. The Joint Chiefs of Staff said they were analyzing the missile test.

On January 19, after the test of underwater nuclear weapon-carrying drone and solid-fueled medium-range ballistic missile, a new generation of this missile was tested.

According to KCNA news, this test was conducted with the aim of modernizing the capabilities of existing missiles. North Korea conducted its first test of a tactical cruise missile in September 2021.

Tensions have been high on the Korean peninsula for months. Because North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is continuing his weapons development program and he is making provocative threats of nuclear war to the United States and its allies in the region.

North Korea’s low-flying, jet-fueled cruise missiles are more difficult to detect than ballistic missiles. The country took another step towards surpassing the missile defense systems of South Korea and Japan with this new missile test.

North Korea claims that this cruise missile is capable of carrying nuclear weapons and that this missile is capable of hitting targets 2,000 miles away (1,242 miles). As a result, it could also hit US military bases in Japan.
