Another cricketer’s husband arrested in cricketer Swarna’s iPhone-dollar theft case

RAB has arrested another cricketer’s husband in the theft case of national women’s cricket team member Swarna Akhtar.

The arrested person has been identified as Al-Amin Dewan alias Azan. Swarna filed a case against Al-Amin at the Sherebangla Nagar police station in the capital on Monday on charges of theft of two iPhones, US dollars and goods worth around five and a half lakh rupees. RAB-13 reported the arrest of Al-Amin from Dinajpur on Tuesday night in this case.

RAB-13 Director Commander Arafat Islam told Prothom Alo on Wednesday afternoon that a stolen mobile phone and some gold ornaments were found with Al-Amin. An operation is underway to recover another mobile phone and other items.

Commander Arafat Islam said, Al-Amin is a man of cunning nature. He is a fraud. He fled from Dhaka to Dinajpur by stealing.

Sherbangla Nagar police officer in charge Ahad Ali told Prothom Alo that four female cricketers including Swarna live in a flat in East Rajabazar. Each of them has a separate room. According to the complaint, the theft happened last Monday morning. Al-Amin came to the flat this morning.

It is said in the statement of the case, they left the husband of a newly married woman cricketer at home and went to practice at the Tejkunipara sports ground. After a while, Al-Amin came to the field and talked to Swarna. He wants to know where Swarna’s mobile phone is about taking pictures. He took a few pictures of himself and left. After practice, Swarna opened her bag and saw that she did not have iPhone 13 Pro (worth around 1 lakh 18 thousand taka) and mini iPhone 13 mini (worth around 81 thousand taka). Later he and others went to the flat. He went and saw that the lock was hanging on the flat. He called the doorman and opened the door and saw that all the things in the room were in a disorderly state.

In the case, Swarna also alleged that she had stolen 35000 dollars, 65000 taka from other two women cricketers. The value of the stolen goods is five and a half lakh taka.
