A total of 8 thousand 105 cases have been filed across the country against BNP-Jamaate-e-Islami leaders and activists in the years 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 and from October 28, 2023 to the day of the 12th parliamentary elections. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave this information in response to a question in the question and answer session of the National Parliament today on Wednesday.

The question-and-answer session scheduled for the Prime Minister was held today for the first time in the 12th National Parliament. Sheikh Hasina said that the investigation is going on regarding the cases from October 28, 2023 to January 7 of this year. This evil force is not only denying the spirit of the liberation war and the constitution, it is trying to avenge the defeat of 71 years by thwarting the rule of law and the people-friendly trend of human rights protection. They want to take Bangladesh back to those sad days of extreme militancy-terrorism-looting.

The Prime Minister said that 188 people, including car drivers, driver’s assistants, members of the law enforcement forces, common people were killed by BNP-Jamaat “terrorists” in the name of the movement. 4 thousand 973 people were injured and crippled.

‘There was a conspiracy around the election’
Standing to answer the first question in the Parliament, Sheikh Hasina said, ‘There were many obstacles, conspiracies and conspiracies in this election. He thanked the Election Commission, law enforcement agencies, armed forces, public administration and people for conducting the ‘free, fair and impartial’ election.

“Election Commission has become an effective institution”
In response to the question of Ali Azam, Member of Parliament of the ruling party, the Prime Minister said that the Election Commission of Bangladesh has become an effective election commission like other democratic countries of the world. The 12th National Assembly elections were fair, free and participatory due to the government’s actions and liberal and democratic attitude, unflinching respect for the rule of law.

The Prime Minister said that the heads of state/government of 48 countries of the world have sent congratulatory messages to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for winning the 12th parliamentary elections. Representatives of 25 international organizations, government and non-governmental organizations congratulated Bangladesh for conducting fair and participatory elections.

‘We’re not so bad now’
In response to a supplementary question by Opposition Chief Whip Mujibul Haque, the Prime Minister said that some problems have arisen due to the coronavirus and the Russia-Ukraine war. As a result, some have had to be frugal with spending, some have had to downsize.

The Prime Minister said, ‘We are not that bad now. The dollar crisis was enough, now there is no such crisis. We have increased monitoring on import and export. In many cases many people open LC by paying more than what is required in the name of opening LC, but that money does not come back. For this reason, the government looks at the international Bloomberg price list when buying goods; It is monitored and allowed to open the LC.

The Prime Minister said that it is not the difficulty of opening the LC that is being talked about, but the way in which earlier the LC could be opened every now and then, now it is not happening as desired, it has been brought under control. He also said that the government has taken several steps to increase export earnings and control inflation.
