Marriage registration fee (tax) has to be paid if anyone gets married in any of the 75 wards under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). This tax should be paid as per Standard Tax Schedule-2016. This system has been implemented since last January.
According to a DSCC press release, the corporation will have to pay a tax of 50,000 rupees if the fourth marriage takes place with the permission of the appropriate authorities during the lifetime of the three wives. And in the case of third marriage with the permission of the proper authority during the lifetime of the first two wives, a tax of Tk 20 thousand has to be paid.
According to the public relations branch of Dhaka South City, following the standard tax schedule, 28 marriages have been registered in Ward No. 45 of the organization in January this year. 2 thousand 800 taka revenue has been collected from the city corporation.
Dhaka South City revenue department sources say that if anyone gets married in the 75 wards under their jurisdiction, this tax will have to be paid to the corporation. The specific form in this regard has already been delivered to the Nikah Registrar. The Kazi will collect the fee by filling this form while teaching the marriage. Later he will deposit this amount of tax in the corporation fund.
An official of the revenue department of the organization told Prothom Alo that this tax was said to be levied only after the approval of the standard tax schedule 2016. It was implemented in 2024. From now on marriage in city corporation area will have to pay tax to city corporation.
As per Standard Tax Schedule, serial number 152 of 10(4) of 2016, a tax of Tk 100 in case of first marriage or after the death of wife and Tk 5000 in case of second marriage during the lifetime of the first wife with the permission of proper authority shall be paid to the City Corporation.
Dhaka South City says that they have taken the initiative to bring order to the marriage registration process in the area under the corporation. As a result, marriage registration matters will be organized and enriched with information, as well as providing relevant information to other agencies and making decisions for use as a basis in future, especially in the case of divorce.
