Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) prime ministerial candidate Nawaz Sharif has said his party has “won” the country’s national elections. Now he wants to form a unity government.
Nawaz Sharif addressed the supporters at the PML-N headquarters in Lahore after announcing the election results on Friday. He was welcomed with fireworks.
Nawaz Sharif said that he has given younger brother Shahbaz Sharif along with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Asif Ali Zardari, Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) leader Fazlur Rehman and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Khalid to form a unity government. Asks to talk to Maqbool Siddiqui.
However, when Nawaz made this statement, candidates backed by Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) were leading by winning the most seats in the election results announced so far. Nawaz’s PML-N candidates won after them.
Despite this, Nawaz Sharif said in his speech that his party’s candidates have won most of the seats and they will form the government at the centre. He said, ‘Alhamdulillah, PML-NE is the single largest political party in the country today after the elections.’
Nawaz, the three-time former prime minister of the country who returned to Pakistan after completing voluntary exile last October, called on all national institutions and politicians to play a positive role in getting the country out of the ongoing crisis.
Referring to the fragile state of the country’s economy, Nawaz Sharif said, “It will take at least 10 years to restore stability in the country.” He said that it is the responsibility of PML-N to bring the country out of this crisis.
Nawaz said that they have respect for all the parties and independent candidates who got the people’s verdict in the election. He urged everyone to hold talks with the previous ruling party for the sake of the country.
Nawaz Sharif said, “Our main agenda is a prosperous Pakistan.”
Nawaz speaking ‘shamelessly’: PTI
Imran Khan’s party PTI strongly criticized Nawaz Sharif’s speech. The party said he was speaking “obscenely brazenly”. In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), PTI said that the constituencies where the PML-N candidates were shown as winners had been “falsified and rigged”. Nawaz Sharif is ‘shamelessly’ trying to steal election results. It will not be tolerated.
