The doctors of Khulna Medical College Hospital said that they have not seen any patient like the housewife (45) who was admitted to the hospital after being raped. The glue on the woman’s eyes and face has been removed, but she is physically weak and unable to speak. No case has been filed in this incident till Tuesday afternoon and the police could not arrest anyone.
Khulna Medical College Hospital Surgery Unit-2 assistant registrar doctor Md. Kanak Hossain told Prothom Alo that when he was brought to the hospital, the patient was not completely unconscious. But he was a little unconscious. The eyelids and both lips were attached with strong glue. The patient had scratches and minor injuries on different parts of his body. The glue is removed after being taken to the operating room. The patient is then sent to the eye ward. The patient’s relatives complained that she was raped. So he was referred to the One-Stop Crisis Center (OCC) from the eye ward. However, they have never seen a patient with such glue on their eyes and mouth before.
This morning, the woman’s son told Prothom Alo that his mother regained consciousness last Monday night. But he cannot speak. Pointing to say something. His mother’s body is still very weak.
Yesterday morning in Paikgacha, Khulna, the housewives’ neighbors rescued her and admitted her to the hospital with her hands and feet tied and strong glue applied to her eyes and face. Doctors removed the glue from his eyes and mouth. Hospital authorities have conducted necessary tests to collect evidence of rape.
The housewife’s husband told Prothom Alo that they do not understand what actually happened as his wife could not speak. At this moment they cannot even suspect anyone. His wife’s gold earrings, neck chain and several gold ornaments were lost. As everyone is in the hospital, they are not able to say what damage has been done to the house at the moment. Two ear lobes were cut when the pendant was pulled from the ear. The doctors have stitched it up there.
The housewife’s husband also said that he travels around different areas and deals in raw materials. He stays out of the house except Saturday and Wednesday. A boy and a girl married a girl. Son studies from Khulna. He was not at home on the night of the incident last Sunday.
Suman Roy, the hospital’s resident medical officer and OCC coordinator, told Prothom Alo that the housewife was taken to the OCC yesterday afternoon for necessary tests and samples were collected. As the patient is physically unwell, he is again admitted to the surgery ward.
Paikgacha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Obaidur Rahman said today that no one filed a case in that incident. However, the operation to identify the culprits continues.
Khulna Superintendent of Police Mohammad Saidur Rahman told Prothom Alo that a team of senior police authorities visited the scene. Several teams are working on the matter. No one has complained yet. As soon as the complaint is received it will be treated as a case. The matter is being given utmost importance by the police.
