Adnan Kabir, a schoolboy, was killed in a clash between two teenage gangs in Dhaka’s Uttara in 2017. His father md. Kabir Hossain told Prothom Alo that he has not yet received justice for the murder of his son. And he left Uttara under the threat of Kishore gang.
The activities of youth gangs in the capital came into wide discussion in the case of Adnan’s murder in Uttara. On the evening of January 6, 2017, Adnan, a student of class VIII, was beaten and hacked to death in the playground of Road No. 17, Sector No. 13, Uttara.
RAB raided the incident and arrested eight people from ‘Disco Boys’ and ‘Nine Star Group’. Adnan’s father Kabir Hossain told Prothom Alo on February 1 that a total of 26 accused were arrested. All of them are now on bail. The accused kept threatening to come out of the jail. That is why he later left Uttara.
The police filed a charge sheet in the murder case. The trial is going on in the court now. Adnan’s father Kabir Hossain said, “I was called to testify several times and was not taken as a witness.” The lawyers for the state were also of no assistance. So now I have given up going to court.
Abdullah Abu Prothom Alo, Chief Public Prosecutor of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court of Dhaka, said there is no reason not to take witnesses. He will find out whether such an incident has happened or not. Take action accordingly.
Teen gangs still exist. But less than before. Police are working to suppress them.

According to police calculations, 25 murders occurred in Dhaka in 2023 due to conflicts between juvenile gangs. Adnan’s father, Kabir Hossain, said that if the killers of his son had been given exemplary punishment, then such criminal gangs would not have spread so much in Dhaka. He lamented that those who killed Adnan are now playing politics of the ruling party and have become more reckless.
